Vennie A. Pent, 78, a resident of Florida, died peacefully on June 4, 2017, after a long battle with Parkinson’s.



Born, in New York City, he was the son of Dorothy and James Pent.



Raised in Miami, Florida, he was a graduate of North Miami High School where he played baseball, football and basketball. He graduated from the University of Florida where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and a pitcher on the baseball team. He earned a Bachelors and Master of Science in building construction. Vennie A. Pent, 78, a resident of Florida, died peacefully on June 4, 2017, after a long battle with Parkinson’s.



Born, in New York City, he was the son of Dorothy and James Pent.



Raised in Miami, Florida, he was a graduate of North Miami High School where he played baseball, football and basketball. He graduated from the University of Florida where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and a pitcher on the baseball team. He earned a Bachelors and Master of Science in building construction. Vennie’s love for the Gators followed him through his life and was evidenced by his Gator themed golf cart.



After a few years working at US Gypsum, Vennie worked for Diebold, Inc. as a sales manager in the bank equipment division for 20 years. Thereafter, he started his own bank equipment service company, Spectrum Financial Systems, based in Mooresville, North Carolina. Spectrum grew very quickly under Vennie’s leadership and was recognized by the Charlotte Business Journals Fast Fifty four different years and was named Entrepreneur of the year in the Charlotte Region.



Sports were a theme throughout Vennie’s life, including 25 years as a college basketball referee for the PAC 10 and SEC. Vennie was also unbeatable in sports trivia, loved music, especially from the 1950s and 1960s, dancing and classic movies.



Mr. Pent is survived by his wife, Rosemary Macri; his four children from his first marriage: Lisa Pent of Rye, New York, Andrea Pent of Savannah, Georgia, Mark Pent of Victor, Montana, and Greg Pent of Boulder, Colorado; and his five grandchildren: Sean Fallon, Erin Fallon, and Liam Fallon, children of Lisa Pent, and Mick Pent and Keith Pent, children of Mark Pent.



His remains will be interred at the Southern Memorial Park Cemetery in North Miami.
